So yesterday was a friend of mines last day at work.  He was the second to escape since I’ve been here.  Luckily the company footed the bill for all the drinks and the food for his going away party.  I think there is only one more person before me and the other rit student gets to go back to school.  Its going to be a little weird leaving Brattleboro.  Im getting too accustomed to the small town life, the hippies, and the odd downtown area.  I do miss Rochester oh so much; the 24 hour a day restaurants and Wal-Marts, the bars, the parties, the clubs, the people.  There was an engineering from IPEC (a sister plant) and he went around the table asking all of the coops if we were planning on coming back to Vermont and then if we were planning on coming back to the company.  Almost all of us said no to both questions, and tried not to let out a little laugh.  Only a couple people said yes, but I think that they were trying to be nice.  This place is an acquired taste.

This is just very mesmerizing.  I wish I had this as like a screen saver or a desktop maybe not a desktop, that would be way too distracting from my work.

so yesterday i got to hold a New England patriots super bowl 20 ring. the thing was huge. i tried to put it on a finger, but it was even too big for my thumb. it was brian halloway's ring. he came to vermont yankee to speak about teamwork and safety. it was preaty cool, and he was funny too.

best quote...

So I finally have some time to blog about my last couple weekends.

The first weekend in august:

my mom and aunt came out to visit me in grand ole Brattleboro.  My mom flew in from Wisconsin like a week before, and asked my aunt to drive her out so she can visit.  Now, I thought for a long time on how I could entertain my mom and aunt in Vermont.  Figuring that we are no where near stowe or Burlington, I had to find new things to do in this state.  After a lot of investigating, I came to the realization that there really isn’t anything to do in this part of the state that isn’t athletic.

Knowing my family, I knew that I had to find another place to bring the two shoppaholics.  So we went down to Northampton to walk around and get home made ice cream, and shop, and shop, and shop.  Then we headed to the mall and hit up the jc penny sale to shop, and then ate some dinner.

Now when they were planning on coming out, my aunt, HAD to stay in a hotel that had a pool.  Considering that we are in southern Vermont, there aren’t too many choices on what hotel they were going to at.  So they get this hotel that I think is just a bit too expensive for Brattleboro… just a bit too expensive, so they can swim in the pool.  Now how many times did they go swimming???? None, they didn’t ever touch the pool.  Figures.

The second weekend in august:

It was so nice, that the next weekend a friend of mine from school drove all the way up from long island to come visit me.  Since it was so darn hot that weekend, we ended up spending it in the mall down in Massachusetts.  It has been a long time since I went to the mall just to walk around and window shop, also to go down to the mall with a gal pal to walk around and window shop.  It totally brought me back to middle school, where that is what you did every weekend with your gal pals.  I usually ended up buying crap from cheep stores, like a new headband that I didn’t need, or nail polish that when it dried it smelt like perfume, or magnetic earings that fell out and got lost after a couple hours of wearing them…. aaww middle school.  now we just buy that expensive sweater we don’t need, or the new pair of earings for pierced ears, or that new pair of shoes you’ve been dieing to have…. Actually we still buy crap that we don’t need… and it is all way more expensive than when we were in middle school too.

oh man. it is back to school time again. i can still smell the scent of freshly sharpened pencils. it's a shame that i still have to work this fall. i love buying all those school supplies with the upmost confidence and optimism that this year was going to the best year. that i learned all the lessons i needed to learn last year. that i was going to do all my homework with my set of hello kitty pencils, do all the extra credit i could with my new trapper keeper with a cool 3-d graphic design, write all my to do lists in my cool pink and purple organizer. oh well, back to work on monday

so this weekend my mom and aunt are driving out to visit me. my mom flew in from the midwest last week and has been visiting family in new york since. it'll be nice to show someone around brattleboro. it is an interesting town. it def has this dark secret dirty thing to it. it's hard to put my finger on it, but i think halloween is going to be something to see. i def have never lived in a place like this, i do like it, but i am glad to go back to school in the winter where things are a little closer to the norm (if you can say rit is normal). ah time will tell. def a lot of hairy hippies here.
